The sky, the Land
and the Water
carry our ancestral stories
and our futures.
At its heart, poetry is experience,
sensation, and emotion.
Story walks the path of experience.
Songs are the rhythm of the journey home to spirit.
Let us honour the many voices of Turtle Island— orality, history and poetry.
Legendary skies.
Our Beginning
Puddle poetry is a project that began with a passion for writing and builds upon a desire to help community members (especially BIPOC and neurodivergent poets) connect with one another, connect with the land, build food security through nourishing gardens and shared meals, share and collaborate in art, build and grow our history together.
Puddle Poetry's founder, Sonya Littlejohn, was born and raised near Williams Lake in the overlap of Dënéndeh, Tŝilhqot’in Nen, Esketemculeucw (Esk’etemc), and Secwepemcúl’ecw (Secwépemc) unceded, traditional, ancestral territories. She keeps a home and continues to build and work in community there. She now lives and works mainly within the unceded, traditional, ancestral territories of the Stó:lō, Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh peoples.
Sonya has been working in literary performance art for over a decade and is committed to the uplift of voice especially within BIPOC and neurodivergent poet communities.
“A happy and healthy community is not a fairytale. All you need is a seed.”

Working towards our history...
Our Mission
There are so many parts to a good story, and it can be told so many ways with so many tools. Puddle Poetry seeks to nourish our neighbourly and creative connections, sharing stories and connecting through experience and time on this land we hold dear. Our aim is to build a strong peer network and open a forum and venue for collaborative live art creation and presentation, music and photography, and maybe even sculpture eventually?!
